The dominant feature of Bradstreet’s Landing is this 6-acre parks pier that extends 290 feet into Lake Erie. As the pier rises 20 feet about the lake’s surface, it is an excellent spot for scanning for waterbirds. There is also a 300-foot long sandy beach just east of the pier.
Historically, an event now termed “Bradstreet’s Disaster”, on Oct. 18, 1764, is one of the most notable events in the pre-settlement history of Cleveland.
More than 1,600 British troops, commanded by Col. John Bradstreet, landed in 1764 at what is now a lakefront city park known as Bradstreet’s Landing. The expedition was devastated, losing many of its boats and supplies when the lake surged onto the shore. Soldiers had to make their way back to Fort Niagara by foot, or in the remaining boats, under grueling conditions.(City of Rocky River)
